The Family Christmas Party and Talent Show Extraveganza!!

This year we decided to have a talent show along with the traditional white elephant. It was definitely a hit! I think we have a new tradition on our hands. Emma started off by playing a jazz boogie woogie on the piano. She is getting so good!
Then Rachel and Angela regaled us with a lovely rendition of Silent Night. Steve joined them on the last verse. I can't believe how talented my siblings are!

Mason, in his amazingly hideous sweater, performed a magic trick. I wish I would have filmed it. But my camera is on the blink since I dropped it last week... Anyway, he made a ritz cracker mysteriously disappear...into his mouth.

Laura does an amazing impression of our idiot cat Callie. It's uncanny.
Shawna performed the Thriller dance for us. Ow ow!
Steve played the guitar and sang a song he wrote. It was amazing!

Alana played a Jenny Phillips song she recorded last year. It was so lovely! We all think she and Steve need to sing together next year!
Paul had everyone throw fruit snacks at him so he could catch them in his mouth. Too bad I didn't catch more of it on camera! It was a hoot.

Courtney played her saxamaphone. Holy smokes, she was fantastic! We had some problems with the sound system and I couldn't find the other video I took. And Jared wanted a bunch of face time on the video...

For some reason I thought it would be a good idea to recite a poem. We all know I can't memorize worth beans so I ended up reading most of it.

Alan and Jenny did a lovely dance. They are the kind of people who actually konw dance moves. It was a lot of fun to watch them!

Spencer made the most delicious hors d'voirs. He is becoming quite the little chef!

Marilyn recited an excerpt from How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Jared LOVED it! I love his little giggle in the video!

Malia told a joke. It was absolutely hilarious! What is green and has wheels? Grass. I lied about the wheels.

Mom and Emma sang a song that Devila wrote called "Stout House." It was so clever and witty and describes our house perfectly!

Dad was a total hoot! He played his ukelele and had everyone make up lines to his song. Mason is really good at rhyming :)

White Elephant Party Reminder

This is just to remind you that you are all invited to our 2nd annual John Stout White Elephant party on Monday, December 21st at 7:00 at Alan and Jenny's house. Please bring a treat to share (healthy or unhealthy) with everyone and also your white elephant gift!

Also, some of us in the family thought it would be fun to try something new this year--a Stout family talent show! We would like everyone to participate. You may bring something that you made to share or prepare some sort of song or dance. Stupid human tricks are also acceptable. Amanda says that if you think you don't have a talent to share, then watch the movie Dan in Real Life. I haven't seen it, so don't ask me. :)

list from Mom and Dad

Okay, Mom and Dad really truly don't want or need anything -- we are happy as two peas in a pod. We have great kids and each other and all the comforts we could ask for. So please spend your money on each other, please really. It will be a bit lean this year and so if you can give something to someone else in our name, we will be thrilled. Just mark your gift "This comes from so-and-so to so-and-so for Mom and Dad." Another idea is to give us a gift receipt for something you did for someone else. We would take much satisfaction in those kinds of gifts. My best present last year was the book of testimonies you compiled. Your love and goodness is really enough. Oh -- service projects go down really well. Like if someone wanted to redo the mangy flowers in the window boxes, I would buy the supplies if some crafty person would do the actual beautification.

For those stubborn ones who insist on something more concrete, we could use a pancake turner and wooden spoons and one of those thin rubber-backed mats to go in front of the fridge. But I've wracked my brain for a week and can't come up with more than that. Sorry to be so unhelpful, but it's hard when you're happy and don't need anything! Love, Mommio

Paul and Court

Hi Family!
A few things on our Christmas List
  • restaurant gift cards, we're not picky. (being a young newlywed couple, Paul and I are just saving our money like crazy to get ourselves into a home as soon as possible, so we never ever treat ourselves out to dinner anymore, despite how much we love to. This is by far the most wanted item!)
  • Paul could use some hats for work, especially beanies now that it's winter time. But they can't have a logo on them.
  • Maui could use some more chew toys. :) jk. Unless you really wanna get her something too. :P
  • DVDs: Up, Angels & Demons, Casper, He's Just Not That Into You
  • Picture Frames, preferably ones that hold multiple pictures and are meant to be hung on a wall.
  • boardgames. again, we're not picky.

Chirstmas Lists

This is a call for Christmas lists to be made! As everyone well knows, we drew names for the coming Christmas season. Remember that this blog was created so that Spencer could find out what his person wanted. Lets return to that tradition. Everyone post your Christmas list!!

Fondue

Everybody is invited to Alan and Jenny's house on Friday, Dec. 4th at 7:00 for fondue!! (What a great way to kick off the Christmas month, don't you think?) Only come if you want to--this is a no-obligation family get-together. I'm going to make the fondue (cheese and chocolate and maybe even caramel if I get ambitious). I will also make homemade wassail!! If anyone who wants to come wouldn't mind bringing stuff to dip, that would be great. Email me to let me know if you can come and what you would like to bring. If someone also wants to bring hot chocolate or egg nog, that would be fun, too.

Ideas of things to bring:

For chocolate fondue: bananas, marshmallows, cinnamon bears (a must, in my opinion), pretzels, Ritz crackers, pineapple, strawberries (although expensive at this time of year), cookies (Oreos!), etc.

For cheese fondue: French bread, apple slices, broccoli and cauliflower pieces (cooked or raw), etc.

For caramel fondue: apples (I can't actually think of anything else--hmmm. . .)

Let's keep this to the John Stout family only--no cousins, please. Malia and Craig and Grandma Ann are welcome, too, if they want to make the trip. :)

Farmer's Market

Do you know what is a fun little treasure? Farmer’s markets! They are awesome! Alana, my mom, and I went on Saturday morning and you should have seen all the loot we got. I was trying to carry two loaves of bread in separate paper bags, a sack of potatoes, two cantaloupes (they were heavy), and a back of nectarines all back to the car with Alana carrying two loaves of bread and a box of overflowing peaches and probably some other stuff while my mom went to get some corn. You should have seen all the people laughing at us. Well, it was mostly at the comments we were making. Alana was desperately trying to make me stop because she thought the bowling ball cantaloupes were going to rip through the sack and go tumbling into the river and the nectarines were swinging around getting bruised. She just doesn’t know the physics of plastic bags. We made it to the car safe and sound without any swimming fruit, though one nectarine was out for the count. Oh well. But I love that place. We went to the one in Murray Park. My next goal is to go to the one downtown. I bet they have gypsies down there. I love it when gypsies try to tell me my fortune.

My New Song!

These are the lyrics to a song I wrote:

Oh, can't you just see,
how it can be
if we were together?

You! Oh can't you feel
that this is real?
I know that I do.

I know,
you know,
that we'll be
together.

I know,
we will
be for-
ever!

Oh! I told you I knew!
Oh can this be true?
I sure hope so.

"Yes!" I can't help but shout,
that you came about
to see things I did.

That's all I got folks and thanks for reading! Next time you come to the house for dinner or something I'll play what I've got on the piano for you and maybe sing. when the whole song is finished, lyrics and music I'll make one final post with a video of me playing and singing it all. Thanks all who helped encourage, edit, and listen. Love ya all!

Skippy

Yes everyone, the rumors are true! I thought I'd prove it to everyone in the family on this post that Paul still has his raccoon Skippy. Skippy, eye less, nose less, and nearly tail less, was found in a box of old stuff that Paul had. He was found a few months ago when Paul was unpacking and he immediately told some of you about Skippy's return. A few people have been very surprised and I think Alan wasn't even fully convinced that it was true, but look, it is! :) It's quite a sad looking animal, and when I suggested getting rid of it, Paul grasped it away from my hands and held it in his arms for the rest of the night. The mere suggestion of getting rid of it almost brought him to tears. (not really). I had no idea the value of this animal to not only Paul, but the entire family. So I figured since the little guy has made it this far... it deserved a small post on the family blog.

Happy Birthday Boo!!

Well, Laura got her wish and is taking a night out with her man, Zac Efron on her birthday tomorrow in the Big Apple. I guess dreams really do come true there, wait, I think that's Disneyland or something... I hope it is great! Love you lots, girly!

Utah boy goes for spin to avoid church

PLAIN CITY, Utah - Police in Utah say a 7-year-old boy led officers on a car chase in an effort to avoid going to church.
Dispatchers received reports of a child driving recklessly on Sunday morning. Weber County Sheriff's Capt. Klint Anderson says one witness said the boy drove through a stop sign.
Anderson says two deputies caught up with the boy and tried unsuccessfully to stop the Dodge Intrepid in an area about 45 miles north of Salt Lake City. The car reached 40 mph before the boy stopped in a driveway and ran inside a home.
Anderson says when the boy's father later confronted him, the boy said he didn't want to go to church. The boy is too young to prosecute and no citations were issued, although police did urge the father to make his car keys more inaccessible to children.

You jsut have to wathc the video as well. What a funny kid! (I saw this on a friend's facebook page and laughed so hard).

Happy 24 of July!

I thought that in honor of the 24 I would do a tribute to one of the many pioneers that contributed to our being here in Utah. This is an excerpt from the journal of Allen Joseph Stout, the father of John Henry Fisk Stout, who was the father of our grandfather, Emerald Erwin Stout. He was baptized a member of the Church April 22, 1838 after almost two years of study. His is a remarkeable pioneer story. I decided to just put in the part about his coming across the plains. I hope you enjoy it and appreciate the sacrifices he made for his posterity!

"Now I was making every preparation to get off to Utah so I got what bread stuff and other things for a fitort that I could and got a wagon by hauling 600 pounds of freight for Elder Hyde. I then got three yoke of wild steers of John Brown, the agent for the Perpetual Emigration fund and on the 20th of May 1851, we left…and went to camp… Now in consequence of the high waters we set out on the 4th of July to head the Elkhorn River which was overflowed from bluff to bluff, so that we traveled one hundred fifty miles out of our way to get around the river.

"We had to roll through sand, mud, and water over hills and through trackless plains, except by Indians and buffalo so that when we struck the old road my team was badly used up…

"My health was very bad…When we struck the Sweet Water, at that what is called Independence Rock, my wife was taken with inflammatory rheumatism, and was not able to get out of the wagon until we got to the valley…so that I had to cook for my family, tend on my sick wife and five babies, and manage my team,...So we rolled on up the north fork of Sweet Water, where my wagon broke down, and I had to cash my freight and go leave it. We now set on again and rolled on until we came to Bog Sandu, in ten miles of Green River where our company collapsed...We rolled on through the mountains and up and down the canyons till the 2nd day of Oct. when I rolled my wagon up to my brother Hosea’s house in Great Salt Lake City."

More Pics

So Scott Adams is kind of slow at times. It turns out they separated the shipment. But here you are! I am just so amazed at how photogenic you all are! I love love love them!
I think Shawn stole Alan's powerwave! He looks absolutely marvelous!
Don't worry, Alan still has his part. He decided to let his hair down for this one. Watch out Jenny!
Jenny also went for the power wave. Look for her out on the red carpet! Katherine Zeta Jones has nothing on this glamor girl!
Sprotin the hive. Lets all do the beaver jive!
Paul is smokin hot palying on his freaking awesome guitar, dude! That Courtney is one lucky chick!!
Courtney decided a bow would really make her stand out. And boy, did it ever! You look so amazing, Court!

Steve departed with his part shortly after the mission, but he still wanted to be like Alan so he also let his hair down. Hot to trot!
Alana, the hair trumper, trumped us all, I think. She looks incredible! She just has a certain glow about her.
Looks like Angela was a bit surprised, but the look definitely works for her! You look just darling, girl!

Yearbook Pictures!

I am so thrilled with how well your school pictures turned out! Of course, we don't have everybody's yet but I wanted to post those that we do have so you wouldn't miss out.. I don't think I could be happier about them!

Marilyn went for the straight across bang. She looks ravishing with the big barrel curls away from her face. This cut really brings out her eyes. Lovely lovely!!
I'm not sure when Spencer had time to grow his hair out so long, but I'm sure Alana helped with that. Who knew he had so much natural curl? What a handsome man.
And Shawna, this is so, I'm just speechless. Angela was asking where she could get herself a pair of those earings and I think we have another size crimper if you want to try that one as well. Stunning!
Laura looks perfect as always. They let her take off her pneumonia tubes for the shot (bless them!). She looks like a glamor girl. I like the shorter hair! It looks fabulous, darling!
We always knew Mason was a stud, and here is the picture to prove it!
Rachel went all out too, and grew her hair out rather quickly as well! I think we are gonna need to stock up on our hairspray supply to keep that bang wave going. What a beaut!
And Emma. Her fifth grade graduation pictures came so fast! She looks so glamorous and grown up. You look amazing!

THE CAMERA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rachel has now found Mom's new camera!!!! 8 months it's been gone! But no longer! It was behind the leather sectional closest to the T.B.!!!!! We think it was stuck in the block of the couch and was shaken loose! We are so happy! Pictures of Halloween, Thanksgiving, California, Mason in a child's pumpkin suit.... would have been forever lost! Hallelujah!

The Little Jarrey Man's Birthday!

Saturday was the Buddy's birthday!! I can't believe the little tyke is two already. He has been so much fun to be with and spoil! He is so sweet and affectionate with everyone and he jsut makes you smile by looking at him! I am so happy he is part of our family!! We love you Gerald!
One of the cutest pictures of the Buddy! Look at that huge grin!
A few of the attendees
Paul and Court came on their one month annversary :) And I love Angela's face in this one.
Mamo and Dadda
Happy as clams. And clams are happy. Jared is so affectionate with his stuffed animals.
The awesome Elmo cake! Alan and Jenny did such a great job!

He gets so excited!
I think he is going to put pillows in it and go down the stairs :)

This is hilarious. And real. I'm sure of it.

MANCHESTER, N.H. – A New Hampshire man says he swiped his debit card at a gas station to buy a pack of cigarettes and was charged over 23 quadrillion dollars. Josh Muszynski checked his account online a few hours later and saw the 17-digit number — a stunning $23,148,855,308,184,500 (twenty-three quadrillion, one hundred forty-eight trillion, eight hundred fifty-five billion, three hundred eight million, one hundred eighty-four thousand, five hundred dollars).
Muszynski says he spent two hours on the phone with Bank of America trying to sort out the string of numbers and the $15 overdraft fee.
The bank corrected the error the next day.
Bank of America tells WMUR-TV only the card issuer, Visa, could answer questions. Visa, in turn, referred questions to the bank.

A Dear John

I was trying to find a mission address on the dearelder.com website and came across a few funny Dear John letters. Poor chaps, doesn't seem like anyone ever waits! But I was also thinking of the Prospective Boyfriend Application Marilyn gave me a while back and this was a little reminiscent of that. And don't worry guys, I haven't turned man-hater, I just got a little chuckle out of this! Enjoy.

Dear Elder Smith, I regret to inform you that you have been eliminated from further contention as "Mr. Right". As you are probably aware, the competition was exceedingly tough and dozens of well-qualified candidates such as yourself also failed to make the final cut. I will, however, keep your name on file should an opening come available. So that you may find better success in your future romantic endeavors, please allow me to offer the following reason(s) you were disqualified from the competition:
·__Your last name is objectionable. I can't imagine taking it, hyphenating it, or subjecting my children to it.
·__The fact that our finest dining experience to date has been at McDonald's reveals a thriftiness that I find unappealing.
·__You failed the 20 Question Rule, i.e., I asked you 20 questions about yourself before you asked me more than one about myself.
·__ You're too short. Any son that we produced would inevitably be beaten up repeatedly at recess.
·__You're too tall. I'm developing a chronic neck condition from trying to kiss you.
·__You have a hairy back.
·__ I find your inability to fix my car extraordinarily unappealing.
·__The fact that your apartment has been condemned reveals an inherent slovenliness that I fear is unbreakable.
·__Although I do enjoy the X-Files, I find your wardrobe of Star Trek uniforms a little disconcerting.
·__Your frequent references to your ex-girlfriend lead me to suspect that you are some sort of psychotic stalker.
·__Your ability to belch the alphabet is not a trait that I am seeking in a long term partner
·__The fact that you categorize the ProBowler's Tour as 'must see TV' demonstrates that you do not meet my intelligence requirements.
·__Although I do plan to support my husband in his interests and hobbies, watching you beat the 67th level of Tetris does not rank in my book as “quality time”.
·__Your decision to buy me a wrench for my birthday after I had specifically requested perfume shows a gift selection impairment I feel unequal to correct.
·__Our culinary tastes diverge too greatly. You consider Rice-A-Roni a banquet, and believe pesto is a cleaning product.
·__My idea of a dream home does not have the words, “double-wide” in the title.
·__I am out of your league; set your sights lower next time.
Sincerely, Jennifer

Invitation!

You all invited to a birthday party for The Buddy on Saturday, July 18th at Alan and Jenny's house at 7:00. In the same tradition as last year, we will invite Jared's grandparents over for dinner at 6:00, and then all the aunts and uncles who would like to come are welcome at 7:00 for cake and ice cream.

Please don't feel bad if you can't come, and please don't worry about bringing presents. We would rather just have your presence!

Emma White-T

Poor little Dootie Dootie has been stuck at home all week without anything to do since Mom, Rachel, and Angela have been in Hurricane for girls camp. There have only been grown ups around doing things that grown ups do, which isn't all that interesting for an active little ten-year old. Plus, the Hessenthaler's haven't been able to play so that has made it even more boring(as if that were possible). So I decided to go to lunch with the White-T. She picked Five Guys Burgers and Fries. I'm not sure why they call it that, there were more than five guys and there were a couple of girls working there. Huh. Anyway, it was rather entertaining. I left her at our table to grab our order when it was ready, and when I turned around, she was right behind me, which meant that my purse was left all alone... So I ran back to rescue it. Well, we got all situated and realized that I hadn't gotten any ketchup or fry sauce. Silly me. So I went back to get some (where the guy taking orders was hitting on me...). When I returned, my purse was gone! "Someone came and took your purse and I couldn't stop them!" The funny thing is, for a split second, I actually believed her. What a goof. Thanks for a fun lunch Emma D!!

Has anyone ever gotten a shot of Emma with her eyes open on the first try?She made sure they were open for this one.
did it work? I'm trying to make it show my name!

We have such a cute brother!

My camera ran out of memory right before he ended. I was so disappointed! But it was just so sweet and I loved how they were looking at eachother and how much Courtney loved it. I am so happy for them both! I love you guys!

Don't kill me..

But this is one of the funniest pictures I have ever seen. I have no idea what she was saying or why she was looking like this, but I was dying. Love you, girl!
